Project Description

Joel ZeffJoel Zeff

Workplace expert, Author, Humorist

Joel Zeff is a dynamic author, speaker, and improvisational humorist.   His interactive performances invite members of the audience to participate in hilarious improvisational skits that reinforce Joel’s central message:  that organizations and individuals should CELEBRATE every day successes if they want to increase long-term productivity and innovation.

For more than 15 years, Joel has inspired audiences from Wells Fargo to Samsung to Cox Communications and even the IRS. Yes, the IRS. If he can help transform the culture of the toughest bureaucracy in the modern world, imagine what he can do for you. Joel is a masterful public speaker not only because he is a nationally renowned motivator, lifelong humorist and improvisational actor – Joel himself started out as a corporate communications consultant.

A former newspaper journalist and public relations executive, Joel started his own corporate communications consulting business almost 20 years ago. Throughout the consulting process, Joel realized his clients – many of them high-level technology and telecommunications firms – needed more than marketing, advertising and public relations strategy. Many of his clients’ employees were starving for a fresh perspective: They saw the end goals of the corporation, but the process getting there wasn’t enjoyable. And this was hurting the bottom line.

Joel bridges this gap by inviting audience members – both employees and their supervisors – to interact with each other in ways they never imagined. His hilarious improvisational skits invite volunteers out of their seats and onto the stage to help illustrate the lessons. Imagine your boss playing a hysterical hitchhiker to Alaska.  The silent accountant two cubicles away is now a world famous rapper who has lost his ability to rhyme. Your closest coffee break buddy is suddenly delivering moment-by-moment sound effects. The entire show will leave a light-hearted but lasting impression on your audience.

Whether your company is grappling with the demands of a software upgrade or toiling with the hassle of a paper shortage, Joel delivers tools and insights that enable audiences to deal effectively with any workplace challenge.

As discussed in his book, Make the Right Choice, Joel believes that we all encounter choices in our careers, and that we always have the opportunity to make the right choice to live a more creative, passionate, and productive life.

How do you “make the right choice”? Any team or employer can start by creating a stable foundation that includes plenty of opportunity for upward mobility and a consistent pattern of positive support. You can choose to provide opportunity. You can choose to provide positive support. And along the way, you can choose to have fun. It’s really that simple. Joel teaches us just how easy it is to make these choices.

Since 1993, he has performed with Ad-Libs, a nationally known improvisational comedy troupe with which he performs at the troupe’s theater in Downtown Dallas and throughout the country. As an improvisational actor, Joel studied at the famed Second City Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois.

When he is not speaking, Joel expresses his creativity as an actor and writer. In Dallas, he was co-host of The Movie Zone on UPN 21.  He has appeared in dozens of commercials for numerous clients, including the Dallas Cowboys, Harrah’s Casino,, Time Warner Cable, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Eagle Country Markets, and Extraco Bank. He has appeared in hundreds of corporate videos and has appeared on shows from CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch to the Fox Network’s Fox and Friends Weekend. His articles have been featured in The Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle, The Kansas City Star, among many other mainstream media outlets.
